Main Street projects

Main Street Projects was an alternative space, artist-run organization active in Midtown, Houston from 2012 - 2019.

Co-founded by artists Galina Kurlat, Theresa Escobedo, and Rahul Mitra, the project endeavored to improve the public’s accessibility to contemporary art, to beautify and repurpose unused spaces, and to provide support that enabled artists to directly impact and shape their community.

For the duration of it’s life, artists were invited to create street-level murals and site-specific installations in storefront window of vacant buildings, one of which was the Houston’s original Alley Theater. As the project evolved with time, Main Street Projects expand the footprint of its public projects throughout the Midtown neighborhood.
